Who am I, now ?

People are living longer. We can live more than one best life. There is more to experience; more opportunities to learn about ourselves and grow than ever. And more transitions.

More transitions can feel overwhelming and confusing. If life is changing, you might be asking…
What possibilities are open to me?
How do I choose?
How will I know what will be right for me?

Answer these questions and more by learning what is you, hands-on. Creatively. Critically.

Through critical photography and creative autoethnography.

Visualize and (re)claim an embodied sense of your self, your whole self. How you are and how you want to be, with intention.

Changing careers

Is this job/career/place really for me? But I know this, it is familiar if not comfortable. Should I stay or should I try something else?

Creative mentoring and life coaching

I help people through life transitions to visualize what’s important, reconnect with their deepest selves, and choose how they want to be. By focusing on how, you reclaim agency and choose to be. With intent. Using a life-centered approach, I will walk alongside as you (re)learn how you are. You’ll lay bare what’s important to you. And how you interface with and process the world. With this information we can explore possibilities, ways to move forward, decide when to set goals (or not), and plan concrete steps.

With creative exploration and critical thinking, we will delve into your lived experiences via photography. This first step gets creativity flowing and prepares you to be more hands-on, to feel the physicality of your being through the act of taking pictures. The rest of the process is self-driven and self-determined. Whatever you need. I serve as a coach and mentor, offering activities, ideas and suggestions grounded in years of mentoring and coaching experience.

Lean on my expertise to explore creativity through a combination of arts and design, researching family history, genealogy, and socio-political-cultural history. I’ll follow your lead and offer support along the way. The journey is yours; (re)claim the person you always have been, and move forward.

Prefigure your life, with intention, for what comes next.

You bring to the process…

  • Curiosity
  • Grit

Coaching stories*

from people who’ve worked with me.

Kara mentored me during a tough time in my life and her guidance was invaluable. Reflecting on our time together, I truly cherish the mentorship she provided! Kara’s holistic approach was instrumental in helping me realize and actualize my goals in both my career and life.

She genuinely cares about her mentees’ success, focusing on their strengths and understanding them on an individual level. She provided advice and constantly pushed me to think beyond my perceived limitations.

The confidence she instilled in me to pursue my aspirations in life is something I will carry with me always. Without her guidance, I’m not sure where I would be today.

Kara’s patience, humor, and willingness to meet me where I am gently buoyed me through a significant career transition. Her holistic approach helped me delve into the “why” behind the choices at hand. Her ability to listen and deliver candid yet considerate feedback guided me toward taking the next step.

I met Kara when I was at a point of transition—an educator switching careers into product design. Engulfed by conflicting feelings of excitement and anxious uncertainty that Kara helped me navigate. She taught me how to ask better questions to craft my path forward.

Our conversations also inspired me to pursue something I am passionate about—research—both professionally and academically.

I think of myself as a self-aware, curious individual by nature, but it’s through the eyes of others—who have the ability to harness that curiosity and help us push the boundaries of our habitual thinking—that we can truly/fully see ourselves, and Kara has been that person for me.

I had the pleasure of working with Kara as my mentor during a recent career transition. I really appreciated her approach to mentorship. She guided me through questions – probing past my initial reactions and challenging me to think critically about my assumptions and decisions.

She also shared a ton of great resources I could explore on my own. I left every session with new tools that helped me continue to grow and learn. Thanks to Kara, I not only built new skills but also gained confidence in myself and clarity in my path forward.

I highly recommend Kara to anyone looking for a mentor who genuinely cares about you and your success.

Kara was a wonderful mentor to me whilst I was changing career into User Experience Design. She was able to see me holisitically – looking at my personal and professional journey and how each supported the other. She is intuitive, insightful and supportive and it was always a pleasure meeting with her, especially knowing that I would leave the meetings with a positive and empowered outlook. She guided me through some turbulant times during the career transition, whilst giving me the confidence to question my choices to ensure all my decisions were thoughtfully made. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her: her input would be a real asset to any mentee’s journey.

Kara was my mentor during a career transition in 2018/2019. She was expert at directing my focus towards the holistic human experience mediated by technology.  Kara’s clear communication and proactive coaching helped me discover and define design values I still rely on today. I appreciated her probing questions and her readiness to engage with me about her feedback – which was always very clear – especially when I found it difficult to accept. I would work with Kara again any day!
